What the registration proves
It proves that SEBI has registered this analyst, and that the registration is current on SEBI's own record. It also means the analyst has to follow SEBI's rules for Research Analysts. Three of those rules you can see from the outside:

What the registration does not prove
It does not tell you how any call will turn out. SEBI requires this line on our communications, word for word:
"Registration granted by SEBI, enlistment with BSE and certification from NISM in no way guarantee performance of the intermediary or provide any assurance of returns to investors."
It also does not make Potoos an Investment Adviser. A Research Analyst number starts with INH. An Investment Adviser number starts with INA. Those are two different registrations. An Investment Adviser plans your money around your own situation. Potoos does not do that. The difference, explained.

Open SEBI's register of Research Analysts. On sebi.gov.in the path is Intermediaries / Market Infrastructure Institutions, then Recognised Intermediaries, then Research Analyst. It opens on a long list. Do not scroll it.
